The 26th edition of the European World Travel Awards for 2019 was held in Madeira at Belmond Reid's Palace. in 2019 Portugal was represented with more than 140 nominations, in 70 different categories. Founded in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognize annually the activity performed in the area of the tourist industry worldwide in order to encourage competitiveness and excellence in tourism.

Sintra - one of the Most Sustainable Destinations in the World
Sintra has been named one of the World's Most Sustainable Destinations by Green Destinations, a German non-profit foundation dedicated precisely to sustainable tourism which, among other activities, makes a popular Top 100 of the world's greenest destinations. Portugal - Best Golf Destination
Portugal has won the category of the World’s Best Golf Destination granted by the World Golf Awards, winning over Abu Dhabi, South Africa, Argentina, the United States, New Zealand, the Dominican Republic and Vietnam. For the 5th consecutive year, Portugal proved that its 91 golf courses are unbeatable and over 300 days of sun per year make the country the top destination for golfers.

Lisbon - Best Emerging Culture City Award
Lisbon was considered the best city in terms of emerging culture by winning the Best Emerging Culture City Award, awarded by an organization that promotes the best cultural destinations in the world, the British Leading Culture Destinations Awards. The prize was attributed to Lisbon by a jury of ten cultural creators in the areas of fashion, music, tourism, hospitality, architecture, design and art, whose work is followed by thousands of fans.

European Best Destinations is a European organization from Brussels, established to promote tourism and culture in Europe. Never has the judgment of the winning city been so unanimous among travellers from all other the world. It is with the votes of worldwide travellers from 174 countries that Porto won this European title again for the third time (2012, 2014, 2017). In 1996, the historical centre of Porto was classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
